My Roommate is a Sith

Yesterday my roommate Nate spent all day working on homework. He was frustrated, and I took a picture of it. He looks like a Sith from Star Wars!

Winter Banquet!

Tonight we had the annual Winter Banquet! This year the entertainment was an Illusionist! I thoroughly enjoyed the show! These are the Powers Kids with their dates!

Yesterday's Snow!

Two nights ago we had about 4 inches of snow. This is what campus looked like in the morning!

Nucor Steel Fieldtrip!!!

For Material Science we visited Nucor Steel Company, which, here in Kankakee makes rebar and stuff. I couldn't take my camera in, but I got a picture of the map. It is a really interesting process by which they make steel.


Here is the process they use:

Scrap metal is first placed in the Ladle, which holds 85 tons, and is brought to the Electric Arc Furnace. Here the scrap is melted at a temperature of around 3000 degrees Fahrenheit. Here the slag is also taken out and gotten rid of. Then the workers take a measurement of the chemical composition and add the amount of alloys that they need to. Then a huge crane brings it to a mixing place where they recheck the composition and add some more alloys if they need to. They use Nitrogen to mix the molten steel. Then the crane picks the Ladle up again, and brings it to the place where the ladle opens on the bottom and lets the steel empty into the bathtub like turndish. The molten steel then empties into the casts, where the steel is cast into 5.5 in by 5.5 in billet. These billets are cooled outside.

The billets are then taken and placed in a reheating furnace, where they are reheated to 2200 Fahrenheit. Once heated to 2200 degrees, the billets are pushed into a series of rollers which each squeeze the steel into a smaller shape. Finally, the steel is the size and shape it needs to be in, and it is cooled naturally to roughly 500 degrees Fahrenheit. Then they are cut into the client specified length and bound into a pack. Right before they are cut, samples are taken to double check the strength of the steel and see if it meets the requirements.

Today we had the last chapel in Chalfant hall. The jazz band played and they were awesome.

Snow In Illinois!

The Storm in Indiana

Yesterday I was visiting Liz's family in Indiana. After we arrived there on friday night, it snowed all night and it was gorgeous in the morning! (I also couldn't get internet, or this would have been up yesterday.)

I was taking pictures, trying to find strange angles and such when I came across this reflection. I thought it looked pretty cool.

Big Bird

On my run today I decided to take my camera, and I'm glad that I did! This little fella was just chilling on a branch in Perry Farm, and he never moved. No matter how close I got to him. It was sweet!

My parents came over to Bourbonnais for thanksgiving, and we had dinner here. It was great!

A Tensile Strength Tester

In my Engineering classes we get to test the strength of materials using this tensile strength tester. Its pretty cool.

I was walking down the street one day and I saw a Rhino demolishing a car!!! It was terrible!!

My rhino took the car for a spin today. It was fun to see him drive.

The Photographic Story

The next project is called the photographic story. We are supposed to create a series of photos that tell a story. Well, I'm going to create "A Day in the Life of George". I will follow around a toy rhino and see what its day's like. This is one of the photos I took for it.

Harry Potter

I went to watch the Harry Potter movie tonight. It was great! I loved it! I thought they did a good job staying with the book.

A busy day

When I have a busy day where I spend hours on homework and get nowhere, I don't have a tendency to take good pictures. Today is one such example. Thus, this is my hallway!!! Enjoy

Resumes

My roommate was trying to create a good resume, and his girlfriend was helping him. They were pretty intense!

Final Project

Today I went out and took some pictures for my final project. I am doing some landscape photographs. This is one of the many photographs I took.

New Shoes

I have been wanting to get some nice easy shoes that are comfortable and simple. So, when I went to Walmart, I picked up a pair!

The Time Traveler

I am still playing around with the slow shutter speed and a flashlight. This one turned out to look like a person traveling through time in my living room. I like how the lights on the wall make it look like I'm underwater. This is pretty cool stuff!

A Ghostly Night

Tonight it was sort of hazy, and on top of that the campus was deserted because who stays on campus on a Friday night? Anyway, it looked kind of creepy.

For one of our projects we were dealing with some long shutter speeds. This is one of the things you can do with it. I was just playing around with it today.

Yuck! Homework!

The engineering boys are working on homework once again. It never seems to end!!!

Focal Length

For one of my blog posts for class, we are supposed to explore with the focal lengths of our cameras. I decided to use my rubber animals as subjects. From left to right, they are, Wilbur the Whale, Phillis the Gator, and George the Rhino.

For my next project i have to take portraits of people. Today I tried doing that without their knowledge. It was kind of fun. This is one of the Engineering majors doing homework.

Homework

After a busy Homecoming weekend, there are always a few guys doing homework. Today those boys were my roommate and I. Bummer!

Homecoming Football Game

Today the ONU Tigers played Saint Francis. We got beat pretty badly. The game was fun to watch though!

Homecoming Chapel

Today we had the homecoming chapel service. This was also the dedication service for the new Centennial Chapel! It is so beautiful! here is a quick glance. It was an amazing service with great music!

New Parking Lot

Since Olivet is going to be building a new Rec Center in a place where we have a lot of parking now, they are currently building a new parking lot over where they had some practice fields. They have been busy for about a month now.

After a windy and stormy day on campus, the sunset kind of squeezed through the clouds and illuminated the water tower. It looked really nice!

Tonight Liz and I played our instruments at the All Church Music Night. It was a blast! I enjoyed hearing Liz play her clarinet. She did a great job!
